There is a LOT of debate about the Carbon Tax. Ultimately it will come down to us - the voters, and how it will affect our hip pocket. An example of unexpected consequences is the GST. We voted it in, however I don't believe anyone realised the far reaching affects it would have on the way we do things. I believe ultimately, the GST has been good for Australia.
